WHAT IS ORIGIN ABL?

We are an Adventure-Based Learning company. We want future generations to thrive in outdoor spaces and stay connected to the world that has loved us since before our stories. We are Indigenous and Pacifica-owned and operated. Here at Origin Adventure-Based Learning, we deploy a traveling curriculum and are currently based in central California. Our focus is Indigenous leadership and empowering communities through healing opportunities. Our courses explore traditional and contemporary outdoor pursuits and tie them to principles that enable individuals in any geographical, socio-economic, and cultural environment they find themselves in. Our peoples' ways are to traverse and explore both known and unknown territories. Our lives were, in every sense of the word, an adventure. Our way of life has always been both practical and necessary to answer the hardships of this existence. By building a foundation upon these principle-based practices, leadership flourishes, and healing opportunities are realized. For this purpose, we use the land and seas as the source material and forever companion in this work. Our cultures are the answer. We are the answer.

 WHAT DOES ORIGIN ABL DO?

The curriculum is intended for intertribal and intercultural ventures. It has been designed to use both original and contemporary outdoor pursuits. Since its inception, it has been deployed and proven effective in three countries on two continents and over six years. At its core, the curriculum stands on three pillars of education Storytelling, Expeditions, and Games. These pillars were chosen because they are believed to be among our most efficient original forms of education. Its scope is truly only limited by imagination. The curriculum can be applied to groups as young as nine years of age with no age limit above that. We can tailor the scope to fit the needs of communities. Visit our courses page and email our team for more information.

WHY ORGIN ABL?

Safety is our number one priority. Our standard exceeds any expectation and certification asked within our industry here in the US. To mitigate the inherent risk of ABL all lead instructors are NREMT (nationally registered EMTs) and qualified by NZOIA (New Zealand Outdoor Instructor Association). Since the USA has no official national outdoor safety standard and New Zealand is known around the world for its leadership in outdoor safety, adventure tourism, and personal expedition, we have chosen their certification and national standards for our lead instructors. All other instructors are wilderness first aid/first aid certified. This ensures we are on the leading edge and always current with outdoor safety. It is this standard that ensures that our participants have the safest and bravest experience possible.
